Madison looked like she had a lot of fun twirling on Saturday for the Walk for Life at the church. She is really coming right along with her twirling! (See Kym's blog for more info on the Walk.)
and it is very eerie. Picture doesn't show it, but the sun is blood red. I can't even begin to imagine how bad it is in the fire areas. I don't think I've ever seen it so bad. My heart is heavy for those who have lost their homes.
I took the day off. What luxury to sleep in until almost 8:00am on a weekday! After a leisurely morn, we packed up a lunch and headed for Indian Canyons. First time we've been there in 33 years. What beauty in our own backyard! We had a fun time hiking and picnicing. Also saw a little history of the Cahuilla Indians. As we left, we read a sign that informed us that it was tarantula mating season and to watch for the tarantulas crossing the "deadly black road." We kept our eyes pealed (cuz that would've just made my day to get a pic of a tarantula crossing the road in search of lovin'!) No such luck.
We topped our day off with dinner at Wally's, starting with an escargot appetizer! (that wouldn't have been my choice, but you put enough butter and garlic on something and it can be quite tasty!)...and ending with a little cream puff filled with ice cream, topped with chocolate and a candle.
A very good day!!
Not quite sure if it's the same tree or not. A bit higher, but a lot of changes can happen in 33 years! Back then we managed to get a pregnant woman and a 3 year old up the tree...as you can see, I had a hard time trying now (can't be because of my age!)
Remember this Dawn and Ter?
Happy 36th Anniversary...
to my wonderful husband!!
A poem that touched me -
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

I try to get into town every couple weeks or so to spend time with my Mom and Dad and with Jody, Nick, Corynn and Camdyn. This time John surprised us with a visit also. We had fun hangin' at the house....
Got off early on Thursday to pick Chelcie up at school. After we had some time (and ice cream) together, we picked up Madison and headed for the park for a bit. I enjoy my time with the girls!
Louise and Bob...
are back from the beach. I'm with Louise right now introducing her to everyone's blogs. As Chelcie says "She has a lot of catching up to do." Louise is way excited to see what we have all been up to all summer!
were on their own, since Kym and Chelcie were at a mother/daughter retreat at the Pond in Anaheim. We invited Doug and Madison over for dinner to have clam chowder and what do they pull up in...a new truck. Kym needs to be careful leaving those two home alone!
I am cat sitting for some friends, so Madison helped me with the cat (who I am sure wondered who this little person was that I brought over that kept taking her picture), we took a dip in the jacuzzi, and played beauty parlor (she loves to do the "doll face" and doesn't she have great hair). The guys spent the afternoon playing pool and watching football and the race.
we spend a fall Saturday morning in the desert! Then its off to watch golf, football and doing the chores that get let go during the week.
Ahhhh....
the beauty of fall in the desert! We can finally start opening up the house. After the summer months of running the air conditioning, it is so nice to have natural air flowing through the house. Highs in the 80s - lows in the 60s. Embrace the day!
Doncha just hate when...
you're sitting eating your cereal and a piece goes down wrong. You start choking, spitting your cereal back in the bowl, almost pee your pants, eyes start watering and your mascara starts to run, nose starts watering and you end up wiping half the make-up off your face!
Me too!! TGIF!!!!
became apple crisp! And was it ever good! I cheated tho. Used the T. Marzetti's Apple Crisp Easy-to-Bake Mix. Great for when you don't want to go thru all the trouble. Cut up your apples, cut the butter into the mix, sprinkle on top and bake. Yummy!! Mark actually said it was the best yet. Must be the apples hand-picked with love.
Got this in an email from my dad today and wanted to share...
Every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back..
Today's Message of the Day is:
Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....
Off to Oak Glen....
to pick apples and enjoy a wonderful day with family and friends. This is trip we take make every fall. What a great way to start out the cooler season!
First stop was Riley's Farm. Man was it crowded. Couldn't even get a parking space. We headed up to Riley's Farm #2 and managed to get settled (but not until Doug had to walk back to the first one and get the rest of our party)! The girls learned about throwing a tomahawk and got to shoot archery. A kind gentleman let them help grind the corn he bought for johnny cakes (he was going to take all the help he could get.) We finally got around to picking our apples.
Next we headed to Los Rios, where we always go to get our desserts. Apple pie, crisps, turnovers, and caramel apples! Yum, Yum! I picked up some bar-b-q for Papa (who wasn't up for the trip today) and the girls picked out some pumpkins and then we headed for home.
